Drought News, St. Louis Cruise & Apartment ViewsBy pmihalek

I recently read an article in the Chicago Tribune on this year’s Midwest drought and its minimal effect on 2012 Christmas tree prices. Illinois Christmas tree growers said drought conditions killed many of their youngest trees, but those ready for this holiday season are “largely intact.” With much of the East Coast still knee-deep in Hurricane Sandy clean-up, I hadn’t given much thought to the drought’s impact in this part of the country.

Whether drought or hurricane, how is your Christmas-tree situation shaping up? Are they arriving on time, in good quality, in fewer quantities? Let me know if you’ve been affected.

My St. Louis Cruise

Last fall I found myself in the fortunate position of picking out a place on the map to go on my own garden center road trip. I chose the Pacific Northwest and was not disappointed. Then in the spring I headed down to the Lone Star State to check out some of Austin’s best, which included The Natural Gardener and The Great Outdoors. Well, I’m about to put the rubber to the road once again and head on down to St. Louis. If you have any can’t-miss travel tips for me, please feel free to share!

Looking for Inspiration in All the Small Places

Wearing the hat of an apartment dweller, I look anywhere and everywhere I can to get ideas and inspiration to help keep the look of our apartment on the up-and-up. We struggle with low light, sparse counter space and no green space. What are you doing to help gardeners like me? If your answer is: “Not much,” then I suggest you start checking out sites that appeal to consumers (and gardeners) dealing with the same struggles I have. Here’s a great starting point and a site I frequent on the regular: www.apartmenttherapy.com.
