A Color We Can Use?By pmihalek

September, 2001: The first time I loaded the trunk of a car with topsoil. Summer, 2008: The first time I wrote an article about loading the trunk of a car with topsoil. It wasn’t until I took an office gig writing for our industry that I started to understand what Pantone was all about.

I’ve always been interested in the buzz mustered up when a Pantone “color of the year” was chosen. You can’t help but wonder what impact it has. It started for me with 2009’s pick of “hopeul” Mimosa, then “tropical” Turquoise, then came “courageous” Honeysuckle and last year we had “seductive” Tango Tangerine.

How are we suppose to work an angle on those colors? For 2013, Pantone named Emerald, aka green, as the Color of the Year.

Hot dog! Everything about us is green! We are green!

So let me ask you this question (for the fifth year in a row): Will this color of the year benefit your business or alter your merchandising plans in anyway?

In the past, responses weren’t very enthusiastic and maybe that reflects Pantone’s picks. Could next year be different? To learn more about Pantone’s pick, click the news item below.

Holiday Displays from St. Louie

In our last edition of Retail Report, you may remember me about to cast off on a trip to St. Louis to check out some of the area’s best garden centers. Well, I’m back and have plenty of pictures to share with you. Just yesterday I posted a chunk of them on our Facebook page. Check it out. And stay tuned. I’ll upload the rest of my photos in the coming week or so.
