Road WarriorBy pmihalek

January is one busy month for me – Chicago to Atlanta to Chicago to Milwaukee to Chicago to Nashville. Luckily, I get to throw in a well-planned and slightly delayed honeymoon at the end of all that city hopping.

Are you hitting the road this month…and if so, will I hopefully bump into you? Coffee’s on me.

Along with a jam-packed calendar full of industry events this month, 2013 kicked off with the continuation of some pretty big news that broke a couple days after Christmas – Commerce Corporation layoffs and business termination. Where to start… Well, I guess a good place is with you. How has this impacted your garden center, your spring orders and so on? Fill me in on what you’re hearing and what you’re doing to ensure you get the product you need to be well stocked for spring.

Hear’s to a Healthy New Year

I’m a big fan of Armstrong Garden Center’s website. It is packed with everything and anything a gardener – beginner or expert, young or old – could ever need to get inspired. Right before New Year’s Eve, I received an alert that Armstrong’s Garden Living Blog had a new post, “Ten Most Popular Houseplants for a Healthy New Year.” Talk about perfect timing.

Looking for the Next Fab 40

Do you know someone awesome? Is that someone in our industry? Is that someone under 40? Perfect!

Our sister magazine GPN is looking for the next 40 Under 40, Class of 2013. Once again, we will shine the spotlight on those men and women who represent the future of horticulture. Anyone under the age of 40 (as of Jan. 31, 2013) can be nominated. But don’t put this off, because this year’s deadline is right around the corner – Jan. 21, 2013. Click here to learn more about it and how you can nominate that awesome someone.
