Have Car. Will Drive.By pmihalek

From Philly to Disney World to Portland to Austin and plenty of cities in between, covering this industry for the last six years or so has provided me an awesome opportunity to see so many unique, top notch garden centers all around the country. The next stop on my list is another first for me — Los Angeles.

Like in many of my previous garden center trips, I come to you looking for some travel advice. I’ll be in the Greater L.A. Area in early November to check out how fall and holiday is done on the West Coast. Whether you’re a Californian or just a frequent visitor, I’m looking for your thoughts on some must-stops. Whether it’s an urban garden center, great donut shop or sprawling nursery, please help me round out my itinerary. Email me with your best trip tips.

Interns in the (Green) House

Calling all interns! For the past 14 years, Lawn & Garden Retailer’s sister publication) and Nexus Corp. have recognized one student who has taken part in a college-sponsored internship program at a horticulture-related company. Once again, GPN and Nexus have announced a call for applications for the GPN /Nexus Intern of the Year.

GPN and Nexus want to shine the spotlight on that special student who, during their internship, learned not only about the many different facets of horticulture but also learned more about themself too. The winning student will receive a check for $3,000; be featured in an article and on the cover of the January 2014 issue of GPN ; receive travel and hotel expenses to 2014 OFA Short Course as well as a full Short Course registration.

To be considered or if you know someone who should be considered for this award, click here.

Enthusiastically,
Pete
