The Big EasyBy pmihalek

I just caught myself up on the latest season of Bravo’s Top Chef — a reality show meets cooking competition with professional chefs. This season the show is based in New Orleans, which is perfect because next week I’ll be making my first trip to NOLA for AmericanHort’s Next Level event. All of that food and culture and history … needless to say, this fella’s excited.

Will I see you there? Maybe we can grab some au lait and beignets at Cafe Du Monde while you tell me your exciting plans for this spring. And what about the garden center scene? If you happen to know some great IGCs down there, don’t hesistate to fill me in. I’d love to make a side trip and see how N’awlins does garden retail.

Have You Seen It?

The January issue of Lawn & Garden Retailer that is. Click here to find out ways to merchandise berry plants, improve tree sales, build better customer relationships, see photos from L.A. garden centers and learn how a wine store in New York handles an intimidating inventory.

Feeling (Under) 40 and Fabulous — Deadline Extended

Do you know someone awesome? Now is that someone in our industry? Is that someone under 40? Perfect! Our sister magazine GPN is looking for the next 40 Under 40, Class of 2014. Once again, we will shine the spotlight on those men and women who represent the future of horticulture. Anyone under the age of 40 (as of Jan. 31, 2014) can be nominated. But don’t put this off, because this year’s deadline has been extended, but only slightly, to Jan. 27, 2014. Click here to learn more about it and how you can nominate that awesome someone.

Enthusiastically,

Pete
