Successful SwipesBy pmihalek

In the last edition of Retail Report, I asked if you’ve had any experience with mobile credit card apps at your store. I asked that because I recently spoke on this very topic with Jennifer Schamber of Greenscape Gardens outside of St. Louis. She loves it. Check out her experiences with Square in the March issue of Lawn & Garden Retailer.

And from Missouri to Oregon, Loretta Downs of Eugene’s Downs By The Pond is also a fan. In respone to my question, she says, “I love my Square.” Loretta generally uses it in the field to collect for projects. This app allows her to take client credit cards on site visits and the money is available the next day. “Before, clients would often say they would mail a check or call later with a card number and the wait for payment was sometimes weeks.” After a card is swiped, the customer has the option to receive the receipt in an email or text message.

As for set up, it only took her a few minutes. “The hardest thing was getting used to swiping from such a small device, but that only lasted a few times of trying multiple times,” she says. “We are anticipating going to only using this device as the cash is quick with discount fees deducted. At the end of the month there is no need to settle.”

Thanks Loretta for the feedback! And if you have anything to add on this topic, I’m all ears!

And if you haven’t already, check out this month’s digital issue. From miniature gardening to merchandising to outside-the-industry inspiration, we’ve got you covered.

Enthusiastically,

Pete
