Take Your PositionBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

You’ve likely heard of GrowIt!, an app that lets users garden socially and lets you prove yourself and your garden center as experts to people in your area.

App co-founders Seth Reed and Mason Day are having a “Great Plant Debate” at the Chicago Flower & Garden Show next week. Judging by their “campaign videos” on the GrowIt! YouTube channel, the debate has already begun on social media.

In addition to a little laugh, this got me thinking.

What are your customers wanting this spring? Are people leaning more toward perennials or annuals, or a healthy mix of both? Does color still reign supreme or is it about function? If it’s about function, is it primarily about environmental, social or bodily benefits?

These are conversations that we’ve all been having for quite a while now. Tell me what’s surprised you recently though at [email protected].

March Already

Spring is just around the corner (as proven by groups of Chicago runners in shorts this morning). Have you taken a look at the March issue yet?

It’s jam-packed with articles for all parts of the business. Notably, there’s a lot of inspiration from other garden centers. We spoke with Heather Moister from The Barn Nursery in Illinois, we feature Annette Gutierrez from Potted in L.A. with both her home garden on the cover and trends she’s seeing inside, and we visited North Carolina garden centers and give you a photo tour.

I bet there’s an idea or two in there for you.

Cheers,

Abby
