Looking GoodBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

I’m back in Chicago after a week in California for Spring Trials and, although there’s a bit of jetlag, I’m feeling energized by all the amazing things we saw.

Did you follow along with our highlights from the trip? You can find a wrap-up from each day on our blog. In addition to a number of noteworthy, although not revolutionary, variety introductions, I was also really impressed with the merchandising ideas.

This brings me to one of my favorite times of the year. Lawn & Garden Retailer’s 2017 Merchandiser of the Year competition is now open for entries.

As your stores are in tip-top shape, grab your camera, snap some photos of a display or group of displays, and send them, along with a description, to [email protected]

You can find all the details on the website. Submissions must be received by June 9.

In addition to bragging rights, the winner will receive the new Dramm 60116 Display (MSRP $2,778) and a $500 Wholesale Gift Credit and a 15 percent discount for Braun Horticulture’s 2017 Catalog offering (one time).

Indoor Gardening

Do you have customers who are interested in extending the gardening season year-round?

More and more people (and garden centers) are experimenting with hydroponics, and our April issue has a lot of what you need to know in its special Indoor Gardening Section, which begins on page 32. Take a look at retailer profiles, like that of Fifth Season Gardening Co., and tips to get into the category.

I’d love for this to be a conversation. Let me know what you’re seeing in regards to indoor gardening at [email protected].

Cheers,

Abby
