86-Year-Old Greenhouse and Flower Shop Closes UpSource: ChagrinValley Times

Established in 1924 in Hunting Valley, a wealthy Cleveland suburb east of the city, Daisy Hill Greenhouses will close Nov. 13, reports Sali McSherry, Chagrin Valley Times.

After 18 years of ownership, Dan and Terri Weintraub have decided to retire. For more than a year, the couple has been trying to sell the 5-acre property with 40,000 square feet of greenhouses and an attached home.

Floral designer Dianne Sweet has worked at Daisy Hill for 41 years and has had the opportunity to design thousands of arrangements, $1,000 profusion of orchids and exotic tropical flowers for Middle Eastern princesses to florals for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. Additionl past client’s at Hunting Valley include Alexander Haig’s wife and the band Aerosmith.

The 86-year-old property began as a greenhouse and caretaker’s residence. Daisy Hill grew distinctive florals and botanicals, including a variety of orchids and hydrangeas among many others and the offspring of a 1886 Rhizomatous begonia with enormous leaves.
