Al’s Garden Center Celebrates 60-Year AnniversarySource: Al's Garden Center

This January, Oregon-based Al’s Garden Center is celebrating its 60th year in business. What began as Al’s Fruit Stand in 1948 now consists of three retail stores and five growing operations with 700,000 square feet of greenhouse space and another 20 acres of outdoor production space – all still family-owned and operated.

Al has since passed away, but his son, Jack Bigej, has stepped up to the plate with enthusiasm. According to a press release, “He is as comfortable on the seat of the tractor as he is receiving an award never previously given to a garden center on the entire West Coast (Garden Centers of America: Garden Center of the Year Award in 2005).”

Bigej credits Al’s Garden Center’s success to being nimble and able to adjust to the needs and wants of customers. Visit one of their locations in Woodburn, Sherwood or Gresham, Ore., and see a business that has thrived for 60 years.
