ANLA Announces Management Clinic Scholarship ProgramSource: ANLA

The American Nursery and Landscape Association (ANLA) recently announced a new partnership with Bayer Advanced to sponsor 40 scholarships for the 2009 ANLA Management Clinic, Feb. 6 to 9 in Louisville, Ky.

“Bayer Advanced recognizes the challenging business climate and its potential impact on our independent garden center partners,” said Jacqueline Applegate, vice president and head of Bayer Advanced. “In difficult times, it is even more critical to prepare your team with innovative products and world-class training to achieve success.”

The 2009 Management Clinic effort launches the Bayer Advanced Scholars program, a fund created to offset education/ training costs for more than 75 independent garden centers this year, including scholarships to the 2009 Management Clinic, Retail Roadshow and Legislative Conference.

Corey Bordine, vice president of retail for Bordine Nursery, sees the partnership as a positive step. “I am pleased that Bayer has taken this innovative scholarship approach to simultaneously support independents and the Management Clinic,” he said. “Louisville has always been the place that attracts the people I want to connect with.”

Scholarship recipients will be chosen will be selected based on geographic diversity, business size, diversity and a specific plan for making the most of business this spring. Businesses must be primarily a retail garden center to qualify. Recipients do not need to be Bayer customers or current ANLA members to be eligible for the scholarship. A maximum of two scholars from one company may be selected.

Recipients will be notified of their selection via e-mail on Jan. 22. A scholarship recipient who has already registered and paid for the clinic may choose to bring an additional individual or have their registration fee refunded.
