ANLA Joins OFA for Short Course
The American Nursery and Landscape Association (ANLA) will join OFA – an Association of Floriculture Professionals – in Columbus, Ohio, at Short Course, July 12-15, 2008. ANLA will hold its annual meeting prior to the start of the Short Course. ANLA will also partner with OFA for several education sessions.
“Both of our memberships are selling products through the same supply chain to the same consumers,” says OFA President Bobby Barnitz. “That makes this a natural partnership.”
Both OFA and ANLA have members whose business activities include landscape design/build and garden retailing as well as growing under glass, in containers and in the field. “OFA has long supported ANLA’s government advocacy efforts,” says ANLA President Dwight Hughes. “We welcome this opportunity to work together and expose our leadership to the impressive education and trade show OFA puts on each year.”
Raymond Bell Honored by LINLA
Raymond Bell, retired owner of Bell’s Garden Center in West Islip, N.Y., recently was named 2007 Man of the Year by the Long Island Nursery & Landscape Association (LINLA). Mr. Bell was honored for his more than 30 years of involvement in Long Island’s nursery and landscape community as an active participant in industry affairs and a committed member of green-industry organizations.
“Ray has been an industry stalwart throughout his career,” says LINLA President Donna Moramarco. “He is a supporter of horticultural research and of educating the young people who will become the industry’s next generation.”
As president of LINLA in 1989 and 1990, Mr. Bell helped lead the successful charge to preserve the horticulture program at Farmingdale State College. He also was president of the New York Nurserymen’s Foundation and the Suffolk Agricultural Advisory Committee. He has been a director of the Long Island Farm Bureau, West Islip Beautification Society and the West Islip Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Bell is a New York State Certified Nursery & Landscape Professional.
Since his 2004 retirement, Mr. Bell has remained involved in the industry, as a member of the Farmingdale State Horticulture Committee and the Friends of Long Island Horticulture Committee.
