Bailey Nurseries Expands Breeding Operations with Debut of Bailey Innovations

Bailey Nurseries has rebranded its in-house and development Plant Introductions, Inc. (PII) to Bailey Innovations.

“By renaming our product development arm, it puts a greater focus on one of our primary objectives: bringing the best woody ornamentals to market,” says Terri McEnaney, Bailey Nurseries’ president  “We’ve worked very hard since purchasing PII to strengthen our offering of new shrubs through vigorous testing, creative breeding, and tireless research to determine consumer demand. Bailey Innovations will continue that work and introduce only the best new varieties through Endless Summer Hydrangeas, First Editions Plants, Easy Elegance Roses and other partners.”

When introducing new plants, Bailey Nurseries follows comprehensive trialing protocols to ensure that these introductions behave as expected in production as well as in landscapes around the country.

Bailey Nurseries conducts extensive trials at its production facilities as well as other private partners throughout the United States and Europe.

To support this practice with the expanded role of Bailey Innovations, Bailey Nurseries has purchased Transplant Nursery’s Winterville, Georgia location to serve as the new home of Bailey Innovations’ breeding and trialing operations.

“This is a very exciting time for the Bailey Nurseries plant breeding team,” says David Roberts, breeder and general manager of Bailey Innovations. “The acquisition of a permanent facility will not only allow us to expand upon our trialing program, but also grant us the opportunity to implement display gardens and increase the number of plant genera that we work with at Bailey Innovations.”

Existing genetics from PII will be rolled into this newly named division, and future introductions will be products of Bailey Innovations.
