A Birding Category for AmericasMart

AmericasMart recently announced it would launch a Birding & Backyard Nature category during its Market Temporaries. A natural extension of the established temporary and permanent garden product collections, Birding & Backyard Nature will make its debut Jan. 12 to 18, 2011, at the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.

The collection will focus on birding- and nature-related products, including bird feeders, bird houses, bird seed, bird baths, books and field guides, optics, hardware, software, nature-themed giftware, note cards, magnets, bookmarks, butterfly houses, bat houses, art, jewelry, accessories, recycled nature products, water garden supplies and décor.

“Birding & Backyard Nature evolved from the growing needs of buyers who already shop AmericasMart with specific interest in this product category, as well as manufacturers and designers’ desire to extend their exposure to a broader range of gift, home and specialty store buyers,” said JoAnn Marshal-Miller, senior vice president of the Market Temporaries, AmericasMart.

Birding & Backyard Nature will be staged in AmericasMart’s fourth and newest building, Building 2 WestWing, on Floor 3, also home to the Gardens temporary collection. The Gardens permanent product center is also located in Building 2 WestWing on Floors 9 and 10, strategically aligning all three collections for convenient buying. Supporting the newest addition to the Market Temporaries is a full lineup of events, seminars and networking sessions designed to educate and inspire both buyers and exhibitors. More information will be forthcoming as the January 2011 debut approaches.

Birdwatch America Goes Bicoastal

The annual Birdwatch America show will leave its perch in Atlanta to run concurrently with the winter editions of the Philadelphia Gift Show and Seattle Gift Show beginning with the 2011 editions. Show owner Urban Expositions has chosen these strategic West and East Coast locations to tap into future growth opportunities for the backyard nature products show, as well as new cross-market buying/selling potential and convenient, cost-effective access for niche buyers outside of the show’s traditional geographic trading area.

The show was most recently held at Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center. Birdwatch America – East will take place Jan. 8 to 11, 2011, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Gift Show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa. Birdwatch America – West will debut Feb. 5 to 8, 2011, alongside the Seattle Gift Show at the Washington State Convention Center. Following the 2011 events, Birdwatch America will continue to co-locate with each of these winter editions.

“By bringing Birdwatch America to these strategic East and West Coast locations, we expect to reach a whole new audience of birding and backyard nature product retailers, while also expanding the buying opportunities for our well-established attendee base,” said Doug Miller, president of Urban Expositions.

The solid retail educational program that has always been part of the Birdwatch America event will also be part of the East and West editions. Programs targeting the specialized needs of birding retailers will now join the full roster of educational programs that are part of the Philadelphia and Seattle Gift Shows.

Birdwatch America attendees include independent and franchise wild bird specialty stores, online retailers, camera stores, mail-order catalogs, garden centers, outdoor retailers and pet stores. For exhibitor information, visit www.birdwatchamerica.com.
