Fire Destroys Wisconsin Garden Center; Owners Vow to RebuildSource: Channel 15 News

Blodgett Garden Center in Fort Atkinson, Wis., was the site of a massive fire last Wednesday that forced nearby businesses and hundreds of community members to evacuate the area, reports Channel 15 News, Madison, Wis.

The fire broke out in the afternoon and garden center owner Jack Blodgett says the fire started when a spark from a contractor’s propane torch came in contact with some straw sold at Blodgett’s.

Crews from 10 fire departments were required to calm the fire. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Community members were evacuated due to possible toxic fumes from fertilizer at the garden center. Hazmat teams were called on the scene to check air quality.

Co-owner Lauri Latsch says the site will remain the home of Blodgett Garden Center and a rebuild will take place. “Our plan is to rebuild and we can get through this,” Latsch says.
