Ward’s Nursery & Garden Center in Great Barrington, Mass., may be at the center of a security breach that resulted in the fraudulent use of information from dozens of locals’ credit and debit cards, reports The Berkshire Eagle.

Ward’s co-owner Gregory Ward said “his company was contacted by a bank regarding the possible security breach, after which Ward’s immediately reached out to law enforcement officials to cooperate with any investigation,” reports Trevor Jones.

The number of cardholders or banks who’ve been affected is yet to be confirmed. Jones writes that it is believed dozens of customers from various banks – local and national – had their account information stolen, which was then used to make fraudulent, in-person purchases around the world.

Responding quickly, Ward asked his customers to look closely at their account activity. “Ward stressed that he isn’t certain if the fraudulent activity can be tied to Ward’s, but his company has still taken steps to shore up its security systems,” Jones writes.

“We are really just in the beginning stages,” said Ward. “For the moment, we’re making sure we are secure, which we have done.”
