Lawn & Garden Retailer to Sponsor Contestant in Short Course Merchandising CompetitionSource: Lawn & Garden Retailer

Will you be at this year’s OFA Short Course in Columbus? It’s coming up: July 11 to 14.

The entire GPN/Lawn & Garden Retailer staff will be there.

But this year, we’re even MORE excited about Short Course, because we will have a contestant participating in the merchandising melée the people at OFA are putting together as part of the Merchandising ShowCase: Tina Bemis of Bemis Farms Nursery in Spencer, Mass.

The major publications in this industry will each have a contestant, and they’ll face off in two rounds to determine the master of merchandising in the final. “The goal of the contest is to capture great merchandising live, provide garden centers quick, useful tips and reward the top merchandiser,” according to OFA’s Michelle Mazza.

The contest will be held Sunday and Monday, July 12 and 13, and each day’s winners of each day will move onto the finals on Tuesday, July 14. Here are the matchups:

11 to 11:45 a.m., Sunday, July 12: Round 1

Dan Truesdale, Rolling Green, sponsored by Garden Center

Bob VanCura, A Proper Garden, sponsored by Today’s Garden Center

11 to 11:45 a.m., Monday, July 13: Round 2

Scott Daly, Homestead Gardens, sponsored by Green Profit

Tina Bemis, Bemis Farms Nursery, sponsored by Lawn & Garden Retailer

11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, July 14: FINALS!

Winner of round 1 vs. winner of round 2.

The contest will take place within the Retail Experience: Merchandising ShowCase, located in the Concourse, in front of a live audience. The displays will be evaluated by a panel of three judges, but there also will be a People’s Choice Award, judged by you! Attendees will vote once per round via a ballot box located in the Retail Experience: Merchandising ShowCase. So be there to root our girl on!
