New CEO Named to SummerWinds Garden CentersSource: SummerWinds Garden Centers, Inc.

Frank Benzing has been elected president and CEO of Boise, Idaho-based SummerWinds Garden Centers by its board of directors. SummerWinds Garden Centers is one of the 10 largest independent garden centers in the United States and has annual sales of over $35 million, according to SummerWinds. The company operates seven high-end retail garden centers in the Silicon Valley area of California, three in metropolitan Phoenix, Ariz., and two in suburban St. Louis, Mo.

Walt Minnick, a co-founder of the company and the previous president and CEO, will remain as the chairman of the board for the company. Benzing has been with the company since 2001 and has been the chief operating officer for the past four years. Before that, he worked as the chief operating officer/ principal of the Seattle, Wash.-based Food Management Corporations and he also has worked in corporate development for Greenwich, Conn.-headquartered, Fine Host Corp.

Benzing is active in his community as a member of the Idaho Chapter of the Young President’s Organization. He is also a director of the retail board of directors of the American Nursery and Landscape Association.
