While it may only be January, it’s never too early to start looking forward to the IGC Show, August 21-23. Here are a few updates you might find of interest:

Earlier Opening, Extended Hours on Tuesday: In response to buyer demand for more time to shop the event’s 1,000-plus vendor booths, the IGC Show is opening two hours earlier this year, at 12 p.m., Tuesday, August 21. The trade show floor will remain open until 6 p.m. on Tuesday for a total of six full hours to shop thousands of products displayed across 5 acres at Chicago’s navy Pier. Show hours on Wednesday, August 22, are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Thursday, August 23, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

‘New Vendor Zone’ Special Section Debuts: IGC buyers will discover the very latest trendsetting products that will give their stores the leading edge next season at the IGC Show’s newly dedicated section, the New Vendor Zone, featuring 100-plus exhibitors hand-selected for their particularly creative or innovative offerings not typically seen at other industry shows or marts. The new Vendor zone is exclusive to companies that have not previously exhibited at garden center shows.

Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless as a Spotlight Keynote: Bayless brings his passion for Grow Your Own to IGC 2012, celebrating consumer demand for edible gardening during his keynote. The opportunities for independent garden centers to profit from GYO are bountiful, he’ll explain, especially when Gen X / Gen Y customers are led into the garden via their kitchens. Today’s grow box tomato enthusiast in pursuit of the perfect pasta sauce is tomorrow’s landscape gardener inspired by the beauty – and practicality – of edibles in the front yard. From seeds to starter plants and soil conditioners to plant food, the sales potential is ripe for independent garden centers to profit.

Early Registration Prizes: IGC 2012 attendees registered by March 31 are automatically entered to win one of ten $1,000 American Express Cash Cards, show officials announced. The lucky winners will be announced at the show, and must be present to win.
