Operational Improvements and Cost Reduction RoundtableSource: The PRO Group

Eleven distributors affiliated with PRO Group, Inc. will attend the Wholesale Operations Roundtable meeting in Fort Wayne, Indiana, June 28-30, 2004 to learn more about warehouse automation and warehouse productivity.

According to PRO Group President and COO, Steve Synnott, the purpose of the meeting is for distributor attendees to share information and procedures to improve operational efficiency at PRO Group member facilities. “All of the topics discussed will revolve around the popular themes of reducing operational costs and improving productivity,” Synnott said.

Highlights of the meeting will include a tour of the Bostwick-Braun Distribution Center in Ashley, Indiana and demonstration of the carousel pick system. Investing in the new system significantly increased warehouse productivity for The Bostwick-Braun Company.

The DeLong Company will lead an open discussion about safety and emergency preparedness in a post-9/11 environment.

Jay DeLong of The DeLong Company will be the lead presenter for the topic of safety and emergency preparedness. DeLong will present his company’s safety strategy and discuss how the rural Wisconsin-based wholesaler has someone from each department of their company on the safety committee.

The group will also tour the Ingram Book Company’s 400,000-square-foot distribution center in Fort Wayne, which uses a telescoping conveyor belt system.

Three distributors, Central Farm and Garden, CISCO and Cooperative Feed Dealers, will discuss moves to new or expanded warehouses and share with the group opportunities and obstacles they faced through their moves. Wallace Hardware Company will share the benefits of the company’s global positioning system on their fleet management. Jim Bradley and Steve Simpkins of Bradley Caldwell, Inc. will discuss their separate receiving location and 24/7 operation.
