Syngenta Flowers has announced the details for its 2016 Goldsmith Scholarship program. The 2016 program will award $5,000 scholarships to two college students who have shown high potential in the fields of plant breeding and ornamental horticulture through scholastic excellence and experience.

The 2016 program will award $5,000 scholarships to two college students who have shown high potential in the fields of plant breeding and ornamental horticulture through scholastic excellence and experience.

The Glenn Goldsmith Breeding Excellence Scholarship will recognize a college student working toward a degree in plant breeding and the Goldsmith Seeds Floriculture Business Advancement Scholarship will recognize a student working toward a degree in ornamental horticulture business.

To be eligible for the scholarships, students must be an undergraduate, master’s or doctoral candidate at an accredited four-year university during the 2016-17 academic school year and carry a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

To apply for either of the scholarships, the student must submit:
• A cover letter indicating the scholarship for which they wish to be considered along with their resume;
• The name of the university they are attending and degree they are working toward with targeted graduation date;
• A letter of recommendation from the applicant’s professor or academic advisor; and
• An essay (1,000 to 1,500 words) describing what “Revolutionizing the Plant Experience” means to their career path.

The information should be submitted to [email protected] by February 15, 2016. The winning applicants will be notified in March.

The scholarship recipients will be announced to the public during California Spring Trials in April.
