Trading His Signature Hat for Dancing ShoesSource: Various

Allan Armitage recently announced he would participate in an Athens, Ga., charity version of Dancing With the Stars – as a star!

“I wouldn’t have agreed to make a fool of myself except that it is a major fundraiser for Project Safe, a terrific organization working to end abuse against women,” Armitage wrote in a letter to his friends in horticulture. “The world is a tough place for many, and having a support group like this makes a huge positive difference.”

Recently, Project Safe has experienced an unprecedented rise in demand for its services, Armitage wrote, and the organization relies on local community events like Dancing with Athens Stars to provide financial support.

The event will be held on March 21, but you can start supporting Armitage and Project Safe right now. The “Audience Favorite Award” is given to the pair who receives the most votes, both during the show and in the months leading up to it.

Each vote is a $1 donation to Project Safe, and you can vote online or by mail. To donate via the website, visit Project Safe’s website and click the “Dancing with Athens Stars” button. Armitage and his partner are Couple No. 9. The donate button takes you to Project Safe’s secure Paypal site; follow the directions there to help.

If you prefer to donate by check (note couple #9 on the memo line), they should be made out to:

By the way, he’ll be doing the Hustle. (Ed.: We can only hope his outfit will be that fabulous – and will he still wear the hat?) If that’s not reason enough to support the cause
