Thankful for … PlantsBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

Coming to your inbox the day before Thanksgiving, I can only imagine you’re in the airport (it’s the busiest travel day of the year) or your mind is already on turkey and pumpkin pie.

For me, Thanksgiving No. 1 (i.e., “Friendsgiving”) took place Sunday. With 21 people packed into my small Chicago apartment, I came out of the evening with three holiday takeaways.

  • Avoid the grocery store when the weathermen have predicted a tremendous snowstorm (the first of the season!), or at least be patient.
  • As much as we stressed about scrounging up enough tables and chairs, everyone ended up sitting on the floor by the end of the night.
  • There’s no such thing as too many desserts. Somehow people always make room after the main meal.

Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks, right? Here’s a video you’ll want to share with your whole family.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! asks kids what they’re thankful for, and the boy at 52 seconds has a great answer.

“I’m thankful for my family and plants,” he says. When prompted about what kind of plants, he responds, “Really all plants because plants give us air.”

Bingo!

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you can take a break from emails, enjoy some time with family or friends and go back for seconds and thirds.
