‘Tis the Season?By Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

I’m currently travelling around rainy North Carolina looking at garden centers, and although my normal M.O. is not to celebrate until after Thanksgiving, I’ve really gotten in the holiday spirit.

Before Christmas though comes Small Business Saturday (Nov. 28) — the day after Black Friday. In 2014, 88 million consumers shopped and spent an estimated $14.3 billion the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

This is just over two weeks away! Is your garden center doing anything unique for the occasion? I’d love to hear about it, so send me an email at [email protected].

Needing some help? Here are nine ideas for Small Business Saturday from Independent We Stand.

Cream of the Crop

The Direct Gardening Association (DGA) recently announced its 2016 Green Thumb Awards. There are five winners in the Tools, Supplies and Accessories division and five winners in the Plants, Bulbs and Seeds division.

An independent panel of garden writers and editors made the selections.

The Time You’ve Been Waiting For

Each year Lawn & Garden Retailer’s sister publication, GPN, recognizes 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are paving the way in the horticulture industry.

And now is the time to nominate! On www.gpnmag.com you will find the nomination form where you can let us know who you think deserves to be in the Class of 2016.

You have until Jan. 22, 2016.

Cheers,

Abby
