The Air Up ThereBy pmihalek

For all my years as an editor in this industry – I think I’m pushing six – I can’t recall a single time I’ve pulled out my laptop to do some work 30,000 feet up in the air. In my line of work, I talk to a lot of different authors who swear by their time in the sky as time to get some real, uninterrupted work done. Not me. After my complimentary Coke, I zone out and try to sleep. Until…

I say all that because, right now, I’m on a flight to Columbus, Ohio, for OFA Short Course, to check out a few Cleveland-area garden centers and to catch up with some friends and family, too. And after I finished my in-flight cola, I didn’t pull my hat over my eyes, but rather pulled out my laptop to do a little work.

Speaking of Short Course, will you be there? If so, be sure to stop me (a punch in the arm always works) and fill me in on how your spring ended up. What worked and what didn’t? You also might be able to find me in the Lawn & Garden Retailer booth (#1501) in the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

I’m looking for sources for an upcoming piece on offseason adjustments. From event promoting or hosting to seminar topics and inventory markdowns (and anything in between), were there times the light bulb went on a little too late? Were there times you wished you could have hit the reset button, but will now have to wait to implement your great idea until next year?

Let’s talk about it because I’ll bet there’s someone out there with a similar experience that can learn from your revelation. Email me to tell me more.
