Snapshots from Short CourseBy pmihalek

Nothing like OFA Short Course to kick off the big trade show season we have ahead of us. Traditionally viewed as a “grower show,” we learned a week or so ago that may no longer be the case with this Columbus event, which announced its planned expansion into the garden retail sector for next year’s show — by 50,000 square feet of exhibit hall space. You can read all about it here.

For me, Short Course 2013 kicked off with the Saturday garden center tour. This year’s version of the tour took us to the Toledo area and the stops included Hoen’s Garden Center, Black Diamond Nursery and Oak Park Land & Water. Visit Lawn & Garden Retailer’s Facebook page for a quick photo recap of the tour.

Maybe you’re interested in learning ways to extend the season for edibles or pick up three keys to customer service by OFA Short Course keynote Dennis Snow. Maybe you’re ramping up for the IGC Show? Well, with our IGC Show Product Preview, we’ve got you covered there, too. Click here to see what you’ve been missing.

Making News

Looking for some easy, good publicity? Take a note from Greenhouse Garden Center in Carson City, Nev. The owner of the garden center, David Ruf, hosted the Carson City Chamber Mixer & BBQ at his store last week. It helped introduce new chamber members to other local business members in attendance from Carson City and Reno. See the photo gallery here.
