Now What?By pmihalek

School buses and 20-mph school zones — when those start popping up, I know summer’s doomed. I feel the same way about the IGC Show. Once the IGC Show’s over, it’s time to start thinking about the fall … and winter … and next year.

But let’s talk Chicago for a minute. Humidity aside (Phoenix has spoiled me), it was great returning to my old stomping grounds for this year’s event. And the show’s Chicagoland Ga rden Center tour was definitely one of the highlights for me. I took a bunch of photos from the day trip. You can find them on Lawn & Garden Retailer’s Facebook page — IGC Show Tour Miscellany and Endcap Splendor. Hopefully you’ll find something inspiring.

Oh, and we can’t forget the big news that I’m sure you’ve already heard by now — the announcement of a second IGC Show, which will be referred to as IGC East near Washington, D.C. For more details, click on the news item below.

Whether you’re a garden center or a vendor, what are your thoughts of the new IGC East? Which one will you attend? Let me know what you think.

Time to Preserve

It’s harvest time and I’m on the hunt for some seminar, event and contest ideas to get your customers excited about harvesting and preserving this year’s yield. What are you doing to keep them engaged and returning to your store in late summer. If you’ve got a great idea or something big planned, I’d love to hear it.
