A Chilly StartBy pmihalek

To friends, family and industry contacts, I think I’ve become that “annoying guy who lives in Arizona.” During an interview on Monday with a Minnesota retailer, I mentioned how “It’s chilly here, too,” and went on to explain I passed on my usual iced coffee that morning and went with a regular hot cup of joe. Only my chilly is 44 degrees while pretty much everywhere else in the country temperatures are somewhere below zero.

Speaking of 44 degrees, that looks to be today’s high in Atlanta, home of the International Gift & Home Furnishings Market at AmericasMart, which kicked off yesterday and runs through next Tuesday, January 14. Did you make the trip down? If so, I was hoping I could count on you for some feedback. That goes for you vendors out there, too. Let me know what catches your eye this year. What new companies or new product lines are poised to make the cut this year at your store? Between booths, picking up samples and swapping business cards, please jot down a note to “email Pete about…” I’ll owe you one!

Feeling (Under) 40 and Fabulous

Do you know someone awesome? Now is that someone in our industry? Is that someone under 40? Perfect! Our sister magazine GPN is looking for the next 40 Under 40, Class of 2014. Once again, we will shine the spotlight on those men and women who represent the future of horticulture. Anyone under the age of 40 (as of Jan. 31, 2014) can be nominated. But don’t put this off, because this year’s deadline is right around the corner – Jan. 20, 2014. Click here to learn more about it and how you can nominate that awesome someone.

Enthusiastically,

Pete
