Trade Show SeasonBy pmihalek

As the summer heat sets in and foot traffic at your store begins to wane a little, the foot traffic on your nearest trade show floor is about to spike. This Saturday, my busy trade show season starts in Columbus at Cultivate’14.

Wherever you’re headed this summer, be sure to get a well-timed pep talk from industry consultant Sid Raisch and his July article “Retailer’s Choice.” Do you know what your customers really want to see on your shelves and benches? Sid shares a few pointers to get you started in the right direction.

And if you haven’t already, check out the rest of our July issue right here. This month we’ve covered trends in green goods, a must know one-word marketing tip, plenty of new products and merchandising ideas from a few premier Ohio garden centers. It’s basically a trade show set to pages.

Miniature Gardening Contest

And if Cultivate’14 happens to be your first stop, consider throwing your hat into the ring for this year’s Miniature Landscape Showdown Merchandising Contest. If you’re known to make a mean miniature garden, give AmericanHort Retail Strategist Aubrey Ballinger a shout (614.884.1204) and let her know you’re interested. You could win up to $600 in free products.

Best Bathrooms Around

Speaking of contests, entries are due next week – Tuesday, July 15 – for the GCA Bathroom Awards. This year’s top winner will receive one free registration for next year’s GCA Summer Tour. If your garden center’s bathroom is spotless, maybe a little quirky and very comfortable, click here to enter. Don’t delay!

Enthusiastically,

Pete
