Your Last Chance (Honestly)By Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

There’s one thing I can promise you: The next time you open up the Retail Report I will not be reminding you that you could be Lawn & Garden Retailer’s next Merchandiser of the Year.

Why you ask? The deadline will have already passed. So what are you waiting for?

We’re extending the deadline to June 17 (that’s one week from Friday) to submit your entry. The winner will receive some great sales-generating prizes, valued at more than $3,000, from Braun Horticulture and Dramm.

It’s easy. Simply send a few photos of an effective retail display or group of displays and a short description telling us why it’s worked so well for your garden center to [email protected].

Seeing these entries flood into my inbox has got to be one of my favorite times of the year, and so far, your peers have not disappointed. This is a competition you want to be a part of!

What a Customer Wants

I saw an article on AdWeek a couple days ago that looked at what shoppers expect in the grocery store.

Take a look at this infographic: 43 percent of shoppers want to “not feel ripped off,” 41 percent want “consistent customer service,” 32 percent want “rewards for loyalty,” and 24 percent want “products that fit needs and lifestyle.”

Trader Joe’s and Costco came out on top in this study. What things are you doing to ensure you come out on top of retailers in our industry? Do you focus on these same four customer wants?

Let me know at [email protected].

Cheers,

Abby
