All in the NumbersBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

I love numbers, contrary to the jokes that they’re not a journalist’s forte. Without talking politics here — I know better than that — I will say that I was on the edge of my seat last night as percentages went up and down and each candidate got closer to that pivotal 270 number.

Between the election and the Cubs World Series victory (108 years since the last win, ERAs, RBIs, etc.), I feel like I’ve been inundated with numbers in the past few weeks.

For this reason, I have some numbers I want to share with you of why you should pick up the November/December issue of Lawn & Garden Retailer, or read it online here.

Inside the issue, you’ll find “7 Steps to Make Your IGC Pop” by Pamela Danziger, author of a recent book that explores specific, actionable strategies to take your garden center from ordinary to extraordinary.

Also, take a look at eight garden centers  we visited while in Portland this summer. We did the traveling for you, and now you can see what ideas might work well at your store.

Then, do you ever have problems with theft? Attorney Angie Avard Turner has 11 steps to help you prevent retail theft both inside and outside.

The content doesn’t stop there though. You’ll also find a list of 2016 award-winning varieties ready for your 2017 benches among other features.

Heading to the Bayou

One of my favorite things to do is visit garden centers just like yours. Next week, I’m heading to the Ark-La-Tex region to see how IGCs do holiday in the Bayou State. If you have any suggestions of places I must stop or even food I must try, send them my way at [email protected].

Finally, I’d love to see what you’re doing for the holidays as well! Use that email to shoot me a note or send me some photos.

Cheers,

Abby
