Shop Till You DropBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

The countdown to Thanksgiving is less than 24 hours away. Hopefully you will all have the day to indulge in family and food before those with a Christmas shop might have one of their busiest days of the year.

As I’ve been on social media, I’ve seen more and more garden centers starting their “Black Friday” sales early; many are going on right now! I’ve heard from some that this is an attempt to bump sales all week, after a less impressive Black Friday last year.

For others in this industry, they have their sights set on Small Business Saturday, which has steadily gained momentum since American Express started the campaign in 2011.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are 28 million small businesses that account for 54 percent of all sales in the U.S. And Saturday is the time for you to shine!

Can I ask you a favor? Bookmark this message and come back in the next week or two to let me know what promotions worked and didn’t work at your garden center this weekend. Send me an email at [email protected].

A Look Book of Holiday Ideas

I’m definitely in the Christmas spirit after visiting garden centers in Louisiana and Texas last week. Take a look on our Facebook page at some of the holiday ideas we saw on the trip.

I even tried my hand at creating a mesh wreath and bow while visiting one Ellis Home & Garden location. I’d say it was worth the weird stares at the airport to bring them back.
