Readying for 2017By Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

Hopefully you had a wonderful holiday weekend and are recovering from way too many Christmas cookies — we have a few more days until our resolutions begin, right?

We’ll soon be ringing in the new year, and as I’ve been talking with people in the industry, I’ve been asking them, “What are you most looking forward to in 2017?”

Here are a couple responses I want to share with you:

  • “What I am most looking forward to in 2017 is to see the industry continue to grow and thrive in new directions we are headed, such as the movement to grow veggies and herbs indoors hydroponically and also to see the next generation continue to become interested in gardening through new avenues and markets we may have not thought of and should be offering and promoting to reach them.” — Crystal Cady, Sunflower Acres Farm & Garden
  • “I am looking forward to adding more products to our e-commerce site and experimenting with new and different marketing ideas to attract new customers to our garden center. So overall I am looking forward to thinking outside the box in 2017!” — Pamela Baker, Baker’s Acres Greenhouse & Garden Center

I want to hear from you! Is indoor gardening or your e-commerce site on the top of your list for 2017? If not, what are you most looking forward to? Let me know at [email protected]. And make sure to check your mailbox for the January issue of the magazine where you’ll find more responses to this question.

From all of us here at Lawn & Garden Retailer, we wish you a very Happy New Year!

An Industry Superstar

Do you know someone awesome, who’s in our industry, and who is under 40?

Our sister magazine GPN is accepting nominations for its 40 Under 40 Class of 2017. Now entering its sixth year, this program recognizes the future of the horticulture industry and the individuals who will make it happen. Don’t put off nominating someone great because this year’s deadline is right around the corner — Jan. 23, 2017. Click here to learn more about the program or to nominate.

Cheers,

Abby
