Product HuntingBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

Since we last touched base, there have been some industry events worth mentioning. From MANTS in Baltimore to TPIE in Florida to the Atlanta and Dallas markets and a few others, there’s plenty going on in January to get you ready for a strong season.

At TPIE a number of retailers walked the show floor to come up with the 2017 Cool Product Awards, a collaboration between TPIE 2017, Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association and The Garden Center Group.

Here are just a few of the 15 award-winning products that stood out to me.

Find a complete list of all the TPIE 2017 Cool Product Awards (including lots of tropical plants) on our website.

You could get lost while at AmericasMart in Atlanta — and trust me, I do every year. There’s countless products, some of which you can see on our Facebook page here, but one seminar caught my attention as well.

Diane Sulg of CRAFT gave a talk titled “Jump-Start Your Sales Success with ‘Made in America.'”

She emphasized that there are only two factors that determine what people think of your store: the people and the inventory.

Inventory that has a story and artisan goods are really in right now with all generations of shoppers, according to Sulg.

Also, if you want to find out more about if American Made products have potential in the gift department of your garden center, check out this article in the January issue of Lawn & Garden Retailer.

Last Call

Our sister publication GPN has given you a little more time to nominate someone great for the 40 Under 40 Class of 2017.

You have until Monday, Jan. 30, to nominate a young industry standout for this year’s class.

View complete rules and find the nomination form on GPN’s website.

Cheers,

Abby
