Roses Are RedBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

You are well aware that Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, and hopefully you’ve had some great options for your customers as well as picking up something for the special people in your life.

I came across this article from Whizbang! Retail Training of 13 Retail Valentine’s Day Promotions. I know what you’re thinking: “Abby, why are you sending this to me the day before the occasion?”

The first reason is because I think there are some great ideas that are even worthy of bookmarking for next year or implementing for another holiday. The second reason is because at least two of these you could execute in the next 24 hours. For example, post red and pink merchandise on social media and run a promotion for tomorrow only.

Total Valentine’s Day spending is expected to reach $19.6 billion this year, up from $18.2 billion last year, according to the National Retail Federation. Consumers will spend $143.56, and 36 percent will purchase flowers.

Also, what’s an option that’s good for every occasion? A gift card. If you haven’t seen the February issue yet, check it out, and flip to page 26 to read Christina Salwitz’s seven tips for selling more gift cards.

Happy Valentine’s Day all!

Cheers,

Abby
