All Things IndependentBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

The IGC Show is here. Are you in Chicago for it? When this e-newsletter lands in your inbox, I’ll be at Navy Pier checking out the trade show for new products, listening to some education and keynote sessions and talking to garden centers like you.

If you are in town for the show, you still have time to see The Marshall Tucker Band tonight at 6 p.m., with the free Opening Night Party & Concert. Check out all the details here.

Also, if you brought your kiddos into town, they can now attend the show. That’s right; the IGC Show has updated its age limit policy. Instead of being restricted to those 14 and over, you can now bring infants, toddlers and preteens along with you.

“We were already poised to change the age-restriction policy next year at IGC Show 2019,” says Jeff Morey, IGC Show co-founder and CEO. “Then, this past week, we received a call from a mother of a family garden center in Ohio who was eager to attend the IGC Show for the first time. When she learned that her 12-year-old son, who works in-season as a cashier at her store, would be prohibited by the show’s age restrictions, she was deeply disappointed.”

Morey continues, “It pulled at my heartstrings, bringing back memories of my own early start in our family business at just six years of age. It was only a few years later that I attended the old AAN Convention with my dad.”
There’s lots more going on at the show such as Shop Talk Retail Discussions in the IGC Networking Lounge. As a huge ‘Shark Tank fan’ myself, I’m excited for Daymond John’s keynote tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.

Cheers,
Abby
