Business Owner, Local IGCs Help Consumers Attract Hummingbirds

The owner of Songbird Station in Columbia and Songbird Essentials/Gold Crest Distributing in Mexico, Missouri, announced today that Songbird Station and local nurseries in Central Missouri are joining hands to share free information on how Central Missouri residents can attract Hummingbirds.

Songbird Station owner Mel Toellner said, “For years I’ve signed every email with the following quote: Nature is a stress reliever from God. Take time to listen to the birds sing.” It never was more true than today.

Residents can learn which plants to grow or buy from locally owned nurseries, including Callaway Fields in Mexico, Giving Gardens in Columbia, Longfellows Nursery in Centertown, and the Missouri Native Plant Society in Ashland.

The session will include fun activities for parents to use for in-home schooling now taking place. Tips on how to keep ants off feeders and bees away will be shared as well as ways to attract hummingbirds like, “tie that big red Christmas bow around the pole you have your hummer feeder on.”

In addition, merchants have combined to offer over $500 in free prizes to help consumers in these difficult times.

To join in Saturday’s session, Toellner said to go to Songbird Station’s website for  instructions.
