Corso’s Garden Center Upgraded In Time For HolidaysSource: Sandusky Register

An improved main greenhouse at Corso’s Garden Center in Sandusky, Ohio, has customers shopping in a structure that’s brighter and with a more “conservancy feel.”

Corso’s Garden Center spent approximately $750,000 improving the main greenhouse, reports Melissa Topey of the Sandusky Register.

While most of the old glass greenhouses were razed, including the oldest one from the family farm in the 1940s, the Corsos are keeping some pieces of that structure.

This facility upgrade could save the business an estimated $25,000 to $30,000 per year in fuel costs alone, reports Topey, which is 15 percent of the companies fuel and heating costs, according to Chad Corso.

A special thin curtain may be extended across the ceiling of the large greenhouse or pulled back to act as a heating and shade system that conserves heat or provides shade. “The weather is always 70s and bright in here,” said John Corso.

“The Corso family also installed a large canopy outside the business that will allow customers to stay dry as they look over the trees and other offerings during rainy months,” notes Topey. Read the entire Sandusky Register article here.
