NGB Names Winners of First-Ever ‘Year of’ Video Contest

For more than 30 years, National Garden Bureau (NGB) has been showcasing and promoting their member’s products in the inspirational program called “Year of.” Over the years, the program has steadily expanded to encompass more members, more gardeners, include more stunning images, downloadable POP for retailers and now, for the first time ever, a “Year of” Video Contest.

NGB is proud to announce the three winners of the first-ever #SnapdragonLove video contest to celebrate the Year of the Snapdragon in 2019:

First place winner — Did You Know: Snapdragons In The Big House

Created by Lee College Horticulture Program at the Ellis Unit in Huntsville, Texas, this humorous video has students at the Ellis Unit in self-deprecating roles as they explain certain “Did You Know” facts about snapdragons.

Runner Up — Snapdragons Animated Short

Created by Ace of Else 3D, this video is a touching animated short that will tug at the heartstrings of any parent, especially one who has passed their love of gardening on to their offspring!

Runner Up —  #SnapdragonLove

Created by Sarah Harding, this entry shows how getting children involved in gardening is so important and captures the essence of a child’s nature experience.

James Langley, Huntsville Center technical chair and horticulture instructor has this to say about how his students went about making the winning video, “My students love horticulture and love to share with others all the great things about plants, bugs, and conservation. When we started talking about ideas for the video they wanted to do something serious and educational as my students are very serious about what they do and take pride in being in the horticulture field. However, during the filming of the snapdragon video my students thought if it was a little cheesy instead of being serious , maybe people would enjoy the video a little more and find joy in raising snapdragons.”

The NGB video judges think they succeeded in making an enjoyable, humorous and well, ok,  “cheesy” video that helps educate the viewer about snapdragons.

National Garden Bureau congratulates all the winners and thanks all entrants in working to help promote the fun and beauty of snapdragons.

Winning videos are available for viewing at https://ngb.org/snapdragon-video-winners/ and on the NGB YouTube channel.
