Suntory Roses Featured on Grammy’s Red Carpet
Suntory’s blue rose ‘Applause’ was recently featured at the 60th anniversary of the Grammy Awards, which took place Jan. 28, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
‘Applause’ was selected by botanical artist Tu Bloom and appeared on the award ceremony’s red carpet.
Recognizing this rose as unique, Bloom and his team created arrangements, pairing ‘Applause’ with deep purple Florigene ‘Moonshade’ carnations. ‘Applause’ also fits the big event celebrating achievements in recorded music.
To prepare for the Grammy Awards, 4,000 stems of ‘Applause’ and ‘Moonshade’ blooms were provided by Suntory Flowers Ltd.
The flowers were grown and shipped by Maxiflores Farms and Flores Luna Nueva in Colombia, with wholesale importation and distribution provided by Fresca Farms in Miami and George Rallies in New York City.

In addition to adorning the red carpet for the Grammys, floral arrangements were made for the MusiCares benefit at Radio City Music Hall. MusiCares is the Recording Academy’s charitable organization which supports music industry professionals in their time of need.
Bred by Suntory Flowers, the breakthrough blue rose was named ‘Applause’ for its achievement as the first rose to have truly blue pigment. Roses are unable to synthesize the blue pigment called delphinidin that is contained in most blue flowers. For decades flower breeders have been striving to create blue roses, a symbol of the impossible.
