Terra Nova Previews develops echinacea for pot culture
Terra Nova Nurseries has developed echinacea ‘Princess Citrus’, specially bred for pot culture with a naturally compact habit that delivers a striking, bouquet-like presentation.
The latest addition to Terra Nova’s echinacea Princess series, Citrus reveals an alluring blend of lime green and lemon-yellow hues, all presented on a single bloom. This perennial flowers June through October, with yellow petals gradually taking on a subtle cantaloupe color at the base as the season progresses.
The echinacea excels in full sun and performs best in average to coarse, well-drained soil; it is also naturally deer-resistant and highly attractive to pollinators and hummingbirds.
Finishing growers should allow this variety to dry moderately between waterings for greenhouse growing. The finish time from a liner to a 4-inch pot is six to eight weeks. Finish time from a liner to a 1-gallon pot is 12 to 14 weeks. ‘Citrus’ grows actively in the summer, reaching a height of 10 inches, width of 16 inches and flower height of 17 inches. USDA hardiness Zones for this variety are 4 to 9.
