Schreiner’s Gardens celebrates 100 years
Salem, Oregon-based Schreiner’s Gardens announced it will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. Schreiner’s is reportedly one of the only gardens that hybridizes, grows and distributes thousands of iris annually. For a century, this family-owned and -operated farm has inspired generations with its iris varieties, pioneering hybridization techniques, and commitment to excellence.
“Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we prepare to celebrate our centennial anniversary,” said Liz Schreiner Schmidt, third-generation owner. “We are honored to carry forward our grandfather’s dream and celebrate a legacy built on hard work, passion, and the beauty of irises.”
The Schreiner family’s journey began with a serendipitous meeting between F.X. Schreiner, a department store buyer and avid gardener, and John C. Wister, the first president of the American Iris Society. Inspired by their encounter, F.X. embarked on a lifelong love affair with irises, collecting over 500 cultivars from Europe and publishing the first Schreiner’s Iris Gardens price list in 1925.
Today, Schreiner’s Gardens spans 140 acres and is managed by Schreiner Schmidt and fourth-generation owner Ben Schreiner.
“Sharing the beauty of irises with the world has always been our mission,” Schreiner said. “But the greatest beauty lies in the community we’ve built — our family, employees, customers, and supporters who’ve been part of this incredible journey.”
Throughout 2025, Schreiner’s Gardens will commemorate this momentous milestone with a series of special events, promotions, and exclusive releases, including:
-
Centennial Collections: Limited-edition iris varieties and commemorative items.
-
Annual Bloom Season: Throughout May, visitors can stroll through the 10-acre display garden, a tapestry of over 500 iris cultivars. Nestled in the Willamette Valley on the original Schreiner farm, the garden showcases the family’s enduring passion for beauty and innovation.
-
Community Festivities: Self-guided farm tours, local food and drink, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
More details about these events and other centennial offerings will be announced soon and continually updated on its website.
