EHR and Cincinnati Zoo to present second annual Breeder Showcase & Trials
Eason Horticultural Resources (EHR) and Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens (CZBG) have announced the second annual Breeder Showcase & Trials will take place Aug. 28 at the Cincinnati Zoo.
Known for its botanical gardens and rich history of plant trials, the CZBG continues to showcase intriguing plants in unique ways. With the support of EHR and more than 40 sponsors, the Breeder Showcase highlights summer performance of plants inside and around the zoo.
An additional stop at the Rockdale Urban Learning Center gardens will give visitors a peek at one of their grow sites and the zoo’s efforts to connect plants with the local community.
New this year, attendees end the day at a trade show with plant breeders, vendors, and zoo staff, as well as a sneak peek into the CZBG’s new exhibit: Elephant Trek.
Last year’s event highlighted an extensive range of over 500 plant genetics and this year holds a similar vast display. Through EHR’s collaboration with breeders and vendors and CZBG’s rigorous selection process, attendees can expect a dynamic blend of new and past plant introductions. These trials act as a summer comparison of what will perform best for a season-long performance.
CZBG’s trial stands out not only to those who attend the event, but also to zoo visitors all summer long. The garden beds are open to stroll through from the parking lots to the African Safari, all throughout the landscape. Last year, the event attracted over 300 plant enthusiasts and captivated over one million zoo-goers throughout the season, establishing CZBG as a hub for both breeders and consumers. This key feature makes the trials one-of-a-kind, bringing awareness to new eyes outside the horticulture industry and offering inspiration for residential gardens.
