
University of Florida updates Nursery 101 online course with new modules

University of Florida has updated its Greenhouse Training Online Greenhouse & Nursery 101 course for 2026, adding new material on container nursery production and weekly hands-on activities.
Taking place May 25 to June 19, the course is designed for greenhouse and nursery employees without formal horticulture training. Topics include plant growth, greenhouse and nursery technology, irrigation, nutrition and plant health. Instruction is offered in English and Spanish.
The program includes eight modules released over four weeks, with an estimated time commitment of about four hours per week. Materials include pre-recorded videos, quizzes and an online discussion board with instructors.
More than 1,300 growers have completed the course. Participants rated the program 4.4 out of 5 stars last year, with an 88% completion rate.
The course is taught by Jeb Fields, Ph.D., and Paul Fisher, Ph.D., of University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension and Brian Pearson, Ph.D., of Oregon State University.
The course is part of the Elite Grower Program and is available fully online.
