Have you heard about Garden Getaway Tours yet? It’s a turnkey European travel program designed especially for independent garden centers, through a partnership between Travel & Company and Cultivaris.

Turnkey, of course, essentially means that all the grunt work is done for you, then you turn it over to your customers as a polished, finished product from your garden center: a beautiful trip to the Chelsea Flower Show or Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

In a time where garden centers are working hard to find new ways to connect with customers and differentiate themselves from their big box competition, this is obviously an absolutely brilliant idea. These trips fall right in line with the high levels of quality and customer service independent garden centers spoil their customers with every day. I’m pretty sure Home Depot and Lowe’s aren’t going to be offering luxury travel to their customers any time soon.

And It’s not only that. If you plan these trips during the off-season, it gives you a fantastic excuse to keep in touch with your customers during quiet times. You’ll get them excited about their upcoming trip, excited about your garden center, excited about spring. And once the weather warms up and you open to reveal all that amazing color and all your newest merchandise, they’ll practically break down your doors!

Then, when you return from your European excursion, you’ll have a lifetime of memories with your customers to look back on. And, if you play your cards right? A whole tour bus full of lifelong customers. Can’t do that with a wine tasting or 20 percent off coupon…
