Consumers Seeking Ideas — and Ready to Buy?Source: Proven Winners

Requests for Proven Winners’ Gardeners Idea Book are already up 300 percent over last year, creating a flurry of optimism for a better spring in 2009. In the past 45 days, more than 10,000 requests have poured in for the idea book through just the top six sources: Star Radio, Backyard Living magazine, KIIS Radio in Los Angeles, Martha Stewart Living magazine, Country Living magazine and P. Allen Smith’s weekly e-newsletter.

Proven Winners has also started asking consumers about their plans for the coming planting season, and their responses have been encouraging: Fifty-six percent of those surveyed plan to buy more plants than they did last year, and only 5 percent said they’d buy fewer plants this year.

Another fun fact: Blue is the new black – almost! When asked their favorite flower color, consumers still picked purple as their No. 1, but blue trumped pink for 2009 with 30 percent of the vote, reflecting consumers’ desire to surround themselves with tranquility and peace.
