Farwest Show Adds Garden Writers Day

The 2016 Farwest Show, Aug. 25-27, in Portland, Oregon, is rolling out the welcome mat for GWA:The Association for Garden Writers with a line up of special offers and events at this year’s show. For the first time, Farwest is designating Friday, Aug. 26 as Garden Writers Day. In addition, GWA members will have special access to the Expo trade show, education sessions and other valuable networking events. Extending a welcoming hand is Farwest’s acknowledgement and appreciation of the key role garden writers play in promoting the industry and educating the public.

Garden Writers Day, all day Friday, Aug. 26, features a line-up of activities and events, culminating in the GWA Connect meeting following the Expo trade show. GWA Connect meets immediately following the Show at 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Gather Food & Drink (new location) in the Doubletree Hotel Portland, 1000 NE Multnomah St, Portland, OR 97232, a few blocks from the convention center. Registration is free and non-members and visitors are welcome to attend. Registration is required. Visit for details.

Friday events include ‘Social Media & Digital Communication Learning Exchange’, a free seminar presented by a GWA panel. The panel experts will guide attendees on how to start connecting with customers digitally, making the most of e-newsletters, using post-worthy pictures, and more. They will touch on key components of social media marketing, including blogging, photography, and writing. The seminar takes place on Friday, Aug. 26, in Room B115-116, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

GWA will have a booth on the Expo floor to facilitate connections with growers, garden centers and others.
