Schoneveld Breeding joins De Groot en Slot

Schoneveld Breeding has become part of the family-owned De Groot en Slot, forming a new partnership aimed at advancing sustainability and innovation in agriculture and horticulture.

The transaction brings Schoneveld Breeding under the ownership of De Groot en Slot Family Business. The company will continue to operate independently under the leadership of Peter van de Pol. De Groot en Slot will acquire all shares from van de Pol and Beekenkamp Plants, which has held a minority stake since 2020.

For greenhouse and ornamental producers, the move strengthens access to breeding expertise and genetics focused on flowering pot plants. Schoneveld Breeding specializes in seed production and breeding programs designed to support more sustainable cultivation practices and improved crop performance. The company will remain a supplier to Beekenkamp Plants, maintaining continuity for existing customers.

De Groot en Slot is a market leader in onion seed breeding and production, is active in the development of the seaweed sector and is a founder of the Intratuin concept. The company said the partnership will support long-term continuity, knowledge development and collaboration across the value chain.

Martin Slot, director of De Groot en Slot Family Business, said, “Together with Schoneveld Breeding, we see numerous opportunities to strengthen our companies, the value chain and the market—particularly through sharing knowledge in breeding, development and genetics.”

The companies said the focus will remain on innovation, chain collaboration and sustainability as they expand their breeding and seed development efforts.
