Time for GivingBy Abby (Kleckler) McGarry

I love hearing about all the great things garden centers are doing. From fun events to unique community partnerships, you all have so many ideas.

Recently, my inbox has been filled with articles on garden centers doing a little something special for the holiday season, and I want to share some of them with you.

Mahoney’s Garden Center, with eight locations in Massachusetts, hopes its customers will buy 2,450 trees for its Trees for Troops program, each tree costing $30. Mahoney’s is 80 percent to its goal already, and across the U.S., others are participating too.

Last year, more than 18,000 trees went to military families through the Trees for Troops program.

Partnerships with local organizations are also giving customers a reason to shop at garden centers this season.

J&M Home and Garden in Madison, N.J., teamed up with Halos for Angels — a charity that extends temporary relief for families in the event of sudden tragedy — during its annual Holiday Open House.

While traveling through North Carolina last month, I noticed a donation box at Fairview Garden Center in Raleigh. They’re working with the I’m Not a Monster initiative for misunderstood dog breeds.

The list could go on and on (and isn’t that marvelous!). What are you doing during the month of December? Let me know at [email protected].

Tranquility and Inner Peace

Pantone has chosen its 2016 Color of the Year, but it’s not just one color, it’s two. Read more about Rose Quartz and Serenity below.

My initial thought was hydrangeas, but I’m sure you had your initial thoughts too.

Do you like it? Is there a way you plan to use it in your garden center next year? Shoot me an email.

Cheers,

Abby
