What’s New? A Lot!By Teresa McPherson

I’ve just returned from Cultivate’19, where I got to see the latest and greatest from suppliers that span the horticulture industry. Even more exciting to me is seeing some plants that won’t even hit store shelves until next year – or even the year after that!

I saw a lot of amazing things on the trade show floor and surrounding space. And I wasn’t alone.

Danny Summer of the Garden Center Group awarded 15 products from 12 companies with Retailers’ Choice awards at the show. A panel of about 45 retailers narrowed down some 70 (!) product nominations to determine the 15 most unique and innovative products that are sure to be top sellers at the garden center.

Among the winners were Concept Plants’ ‘Senaw Angel Wings’, a delicate-looking silvery-white senecio everyone seemed to want to reach out and touch.

Another winner was Monrovia’s Newport hydrangea. I’ve never met a hydrangea I didn’t want to take home and plant, and this newest addition to their Seaside Serenade line caught my eye not only for its richly colored flower clusters, but also for the pretty dark blue buds inside each flower.

As for non-green-goods, Proven Winners was recognized for their new Aqua Pot self-watering ceramic pot, and CTI Plastics received an award for their plastic pots made from recycled plastic from the sea.
